Feb 4, 2021 a “public bishop” Ivan Marhitych celebrated his 100th birthday anniversary. Clergy and the congregation of Kyiv archeparchy honored bishop Ivan, who was truly devoted to his church and Ukrainian people till the last days, with a prayer.

The prayer was led by archpriest Ihor Onyshkevych, the senior priest of St. Nicholas Church on Askold’s Grave in Kyiv. Relatives of bishop Ivan also were present there.

Fr. Ivan said that it was the way we glorified bishop Ivan through that prayer, who, because of help he had granted and care delivered for priests and the faithful on Zakarpattia he was called a “Public Bishop”. “In 1992 we started praying in the church on Askold’s Grave. Precisely here bishop Ivan was proclaiming the word of God and gathered a community of people from Zakarpattia”, mentioned the archpriest.

The senior priest of St. Nicholas Church recalled that mainly with a blessing of His Excellency, he started his advancement towards priesthood himself.

At the end, Fr. Ivan thanked all the present and organizers for a decent commemoration of bishop Ivan Marhitych.
