On September 27, 2010, Archbishop of Barcelona Lluís Sistach received the representatives of the local community of the UGCC: Fr. Joseph Kazanova, deacon Roman Shymon, seminarians Roman Ostapyuk and Yuriy Stasyuk, and monks Augustine Khomyn and Justin Boyko. The clergy representatives expressed their gratitude to Archbishop Lluís Sistach for his constant care for the local Ukrainian church community. The meeting marked to two important events – the first deacon ordination on the territory of Spain of Roman Shymon, who will stay to minister the faithful of the UGCC in Barcelona, and the 50th year anniversary of priesthood of the Fr. Joseph Kazanova, who in the early 1950s decided to devote his life to the ministry of UGCC, at first in Germany and then in Spain.  The Archeparchy of Barcelona has for a long time been supporting the local community of Ukrainian immigrants by sharing a church and other spaces. This year the archeparchy accepted two seminarians from the Ternopil spiritual seminary, Roman Ostapyuk and Yuriy Stasyuk, who upon completing their studies will stay in the area to minister for the Ukrainian immigrants.
