The textbook Missiology authored by Rev. Myron Bendyk, rector of Drohobych Spiritual Seminary, doctor of theology, is the first attempt at a systematic interpretation of the realization of the missionary mandate of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.  This was stated by Joseph (Milyan), head of the Pastoral –Missionary Department (PMD), Auxiliary Bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy.   On May 16th, the presentation of the publication to seminarians of Patriarch Josef  (Slipyi) Ternopil Higher Seminary took place;  on May 17th, to seminarians of Lviv Spiritual Seminary of the Holy Spirit;  on May 18th, to seminarians at Drohobych Spiritual Seminary.

“This textbook will not only be useful to seminarians who are preparing for pastoral care, but also to priests, potential candidates who want to go to serve our people beyond our borders.  Our pastor has to be an intelligent person, creative, versed in the fields of theology and missiology;  he has to be himself, belong to his Church, radiate his identity, not to lose one’s own face as a Ukrainian and a person who believes,” emphasized Bishop Joseph.

The PMD Head noted that the author of the publication expounds the history and the concept of the mission as such – both of the Universal Church in general as well as the missiology of UGCC.  He presents it within the context of the challenges and problems facing the Church today.

“This publication may be considered the first UGCC textbook on missiology.   Rev. Dr. Myron’s work is unique mainly because it, on the one hand, pays attention to the ecclesiastical model of UGCC and, on the other hand, opens to it new realms of activities as a Church that is holy, conciliar, apostolic and catholic

Thus his presentation permits one to see the fullness of the missionary task, which stands in front of everyone who belongs to UGCC,”  emphasized Bishop Joseph.

PMD Head noted that since the book was published in a small edition (1,000 copies), it will be recommended to seminarians of more senior classes and potential candidates for pastoral work beyond the country borders.  In addition, the bishop shared with the seminarians, his experience in missionary activities and pastoral visits to various regions in Ukraine and abroad.
