Bishop Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) undertakes pastoral visits to the northern Vicariate of Argentina

On Saturday, July 11, Bishop Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) served the Hierarchal Liturgy in the pro-cathedral church of Saint Volodymyr, in the city Posadas, Misiones, as part of church feast celebrations. The church was overcrowded with parishioners who arrived to greet their bishop. Bishop Svyatoslav spoke to them in Spanish and presented the figure of Saint Prince Volodymyr, who, as the bishop explained, was opened to the Christian faith through divine beauty. This beauty is reflected today in the churches and divine services of Byzantine tradition churches.

The bishop was assisted by auxiliary Bishop Mikhail (Mikytsey), administrative bishop of the Ukrainian eparchy of the Holy Veil, in Argentina, Bishop Danyil (Kozlinskiy), auxiliary bishop of the Ukrainian eparchy of Brazil, Bishop-nominate Victor Arengart, future hierarch of newly created dioceses Obera of Latvian rite (prov. Misiones), Fr. Lyuiz Glinka, PhD, general vicar of Ukrainian eparchy, Fr. Joseph Hazuda, PhD, vicar of North vicariate Argentina and abbot of the Ukrainian church of Saint Volodymyr in Posadas, Fr. Andriy Koropetskyj, OSBM, proto-igumen of the Argentine province of Frs. Basilian, Fr. Joseph Haudeda, pastor of the Ukrainian parish for the city of Andresito, Fr. Marsello Shikorski, prefect of the diocesan Latin seminary of the city Posadas. The Deacon service was performed by Deacon Nestor Harpachuk.  After the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Svyatoslav blessed everyone that had gathered. The celebration finished with the traditional Argentine «asado» followed by a theatrical performance in the parish hall. On July 15, at the church of Saint Volodymyr in the city Posadas, Bishop Svyatoslav met with the clergy of the northern Vicariate, allowing priests to personally talk to the newly-appointed bishop, to discuss important pastoral issues and to outline necessary measures that need to be taken in order to improve pastoral guardianship and catechetical ministering to the faithful in Argentina. The following clergymen were present at the meeting: Fr. Joseph Hazuda, PhD, vicar, Fr. Andriy Koropeckiy, OSBM, proto-igumen of Argentine province of Frs. Basilian, Fr. Ignatius Suburbs, OSBM, Fr. Joseph Spasyuk, OSBM, Fr. Easily Soiled Henko, OSBM, Fr. Hilermo Andrukhovich OSBM, Fr. Mikolay Hembarovskiy, OSBM, Fr. Avelino Rochchen (SVD), Fr. Karlo Karboch, Fr. Volodymyr Filipov from Paraguay, Deacons Federiko Ostrovskiy OSBM and Nestor Harpachuk. On that day, Bishop Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) also visited with the governor of the province of Misiones, Mr. Maurse Kloss. During the meeting, they discussed the status of cooperation between the local-authority and the Ukrainian Church, and addressed the question of creating a monument to honor the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33. In the following days, Bishop Svyatoslav visited Ukrainian parishes and missions villages of Chako and Formosa in the provinces of Misiones. He is planning to take part in the general Ukrainian pilgrimage of the faithful of the northern vicariate to the national pilgrimage place in the suborn of Itati (province of Korrientes), which will take place on September 6, 2009.
