Celebration of the 1025th anniversary of Baptism was discussed by the President and AUCCRO

His Beatitude Sviatoslav(Shevchuk, UGCC Head, participated in the meeting of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO). The meeting, held on April 23rd, focused on the commemoration of the 1025th anniversary of introducing Christianity in Kyivan Rus.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav(Shevchuk, UGCC Head, participated in the meeting of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations  (AUCCRO).  The meeting, held on April 23rd, focused on the commemoration of the 1025th anniversary of introducing Christianity in Kyivan Rus.

“Marking the 1025 jubilee anniversary of the acceptance of Christianity as the state religion in Ukraine-Rus has to be not only a celebration of Christians, but also as a celebration of Ukrainian statehood, its European identity, a spiritual and cultural ascent, and as a guarantee of successful democratic modernization of Ukrainian society,” emphasized Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych during the meeting with the superiors of Churches and religious organizations.

The President urged representatives of clergy to join in the preparation and realization of festivities marking the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus. He expressed confidence that state authorities will provide all kinds of support to religious organizations in realizing their projects and initiatives to mark this jubilee.

From their side, members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations communicated to the President a variety of pending issues that, in their opinion, should become the foundation of the state-confessions dialogue.
