Celebrations to be held in Kyiv (June 14-24 ) on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Blessed John Paull II’s visit to Ukraine

This news was reported on June 14 at a press-conference in UNIAN by Bishop Josyf (Milian), Auxiliary Bishop of Kyiv Archeparchy, the Head of the Organizing Committee of the celebrations. Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradiuk, Auxiliary Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomy Diocesy of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, also took part at the press-conference. Bishop Josyf told that within the programme of the 10th anniversary of Blessed John Paul II’s visit to Ukraine one can attend different activities dedicated to this memorable event. On June 14 an exhibition “Pope, Ukraine and I”, showing photographs, memorable things, works of art and books of the Pope, opens in Ukrainian House (Ukrainskyi Dim). On June 23 in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ a Pontifical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated and thereafter will take place an opening of a memorial stone commemorating John Paul II’s visit to Ukraine.

Participants of the discussion will be: His Beatitude Lubomyr (Husar), Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Catholic Church -  Archbishop Nicola Eterovych, as well as famous scientists, politicians and public figures. During this event, a Ukrainian translation of the book of George Weigel “Witness of hope. The biography of Pope John Paul II” will be presented. In the evening on the same day in the National Opera of Ukraine will play opera “Moses”, which was blessed by Blessed Pope John Paul II.   On Saturday, June 25 in the church of St. Nicholas Miracle worker on Askoldova Mohyla a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated followed by a floristic exhibition “Flowers for the Pope”. At 22.00 on Kontraktova sq. will take place a street performance “Job” of Lviv academic theater “Voskresinnia”. Besides that, a youth flesh mob and quest is to take place on Maidan Nezalezhnosti and Khreshatyk on June 25  .   Reference. Pope of Rome John Paul II visited Ukraine with a pastoral visit 23-27 June 2001 upon the invitation of the President of Ukraine, Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches. The Holy Father visited Kyiv and Lviv, met with representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and religious organizations and beatified 27 Greek Catholic new martyrs. On 1 May 2011 Pope Benedict XVI beatified his predecessor.
