Chaplains have to become bearers of peace and tranquility in times of fear and panic, - His Beatitude Sviatoslav at Congress of chaplains

December 8, the 15th Congress of the UGCC military chaplains was launched.

Over 70 chaplains took part in the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, headed by Bishop Mykhailo Koltun, head of the Military Chaplaincy Department of the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC in his greeting speech said today it is extremely difficult to seek vocation to military chaplaincy. Church is stepping into a new period of institutionalization of a chaplain’s service.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav says that military chaplains will need to pass mobilization through enlistment offices. This challenge is somewhat a loss for the Church. Thus, a chaplain will have to face a choice today. There are few of them and the number can even decline more, as not everyone is ready to leave their parishes and be mobilized to the army. Today we already have new vacancies for servicing.

The Head of the UGCC emphasized that Church may support the Ukrainian army. The instruments of it are our chaplains. They have to become bearers of peace and tranquility in times of fear and panic. We have no right to allow our hearts to be alarmed but we must be sure that God is with us. We have to be those who defend our Motherland, to be their so-called stabilizer.
