Days of Remembrance for the victims of Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Paris

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Holodomor – the 1932-1933 famine-genocide in Ukraine – a series of events were held in Paris.
On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Holodomor – the 1932-1933 famine-genocide in Ukraine – a series of events were held in Paris.  On Sunday, November 15, 2009, after the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Saint Volodymyr in Paris, a Ukrainian requiem of Oleksandr Kozarenko dedicated to the victims of repressions, deportations, and holodomors of 20th century in Ukraine took place. On Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 18:00 under the direction of Mrs. Natalie Pasternak, the head of the Representative Committee in France, representatives of the French government, and representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in France, the association “Ukraine 33,” and the Ukrainian community laid flowers on the monument of Taras Shevchenko. Each of them expressed short, but powerful word, and afterwards all gathered in the parish’s hall of the Cathedral of Saint Volodymyr the Great. On November 21, 2009, at 17:00 under the Arc de Triumph, on the grave of Unknown Soldier, a laying of flowers ceremony took place with the participation of the Ambassador of Ukraine in France Constantine Tymoshenko and representatives of the Ukrainian community. On Sunday, November 22, 2009, at 14:00 people gathered together in the public garden of Taras Shevchenko near the cathedral of the UGCC and all together, with slogans and distributing leaflets on their way, proceeded to the Cathedral of the Parisian Mother of God for the Divine Liturgy, which began at 15:30.   The Divine Liturgy was led by Reverend Bishop Mikhail (Hrynchyshyn), bishop for Ukrainians of the UGCC in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. Priests of the exarchate and the priests of other Catholic Churches took part in the mass. Monsignor Brizar, director of the Association Euro d’Orio, pronounced a resonant sermon. After the Divine Liturgy an ecumenical memorial service for was held with the participation of Orthodox priests Serhiy Herasymenko and Fr. Boris Khaynevs’kyj of UAOC. The Divine Liturgy was sung by the cathedral choir of Saint Volodymyr the Great in Paris lead by Mrs. Nadiya Bilohods’ka. At the mass were present the Ambassador of Ukraine in France Constantine Tymoshenko and representatives of the diplomatic staff.  On the next day the priests of the exarchate held their conference council.
