From the Head of the Church on the 95th day of the war: All those who are silent today are participating in Russia's crimes in Ukraine

We see that today silence is able to kill. All those who are silent today and do not have the courage to condemn Russian aggression in Ukraine or even to express their position are complicit in this crime. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church said in his daily address on the 95th day of Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Primate noted that Ukraine is already experiencing the 95th day of a difficult, bloody war. And we thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for being able to live the last day and last night and meet the sun this Sunday morning in Kyiv.

“Despite the great efforts of the enemy, the Ukrainian flag is proudly flying over the city of Severodonetsk. The enemy is concentrating significant forces in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, attacking more and more cities and villages of Ukraine. Yesterday a large industrial city of Kryvyi Rih, which we sympathize with and for which we lift our prayers to the Lord, was subjected to heavy rocket fire”, said the Head of the Church.

The spiritual leader noted that the enemy continues to fire the territory near the border in the north of our country, in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. People are dying, human blood is flowing. A sea of tears… But through the great faith in the Lord – Ukrainians regain their strength. Believing in the resurrection, we overcome death.

On this day, His Beatitude Sviatoslav completed his reflections on the part of our Catechism that speaks of “other people's” sins. The last way a person might participate in other people’s sin is by silence.

“A person thinks, - the Primate convinces, - that if she does not resist sin, does not fight against sin, but simply remains silent, she will avoid responsibility. However, this is not so. When we are silent about sin, it only increases. When we are silent about sin – we agree with it. There is a Ukrainian saying: silence means consent. When we keep silent about sin, we encourage the sinner to continue committing crimes”.

“Therefore, today I again invite everyone: Do not be silent about sin! For when we unveil sin, bring it to light, reveal it – it loses its power, decays, disappears, as darkness disappears, which is illuminated by the light of God's truth”, the spiritual leader assumes.

Today, Ukrainians are calling for modern humanity, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasizes, the world community, the international church community: “We ask everyone to be in solidarity with us, pray for us, support Ukraine, and not be silent about sin!”
