From the Head of the UGCC on the 126th day of the war: May the Holy Spirit allow us, through self-control, to be good, wise masters of our native land

We ask the Holy Spirit to grant us self-control, especially in the conditions of war, when we lack the means for a dignified life begin more and more, because war always brings devastation, impoverishment and hunger with it.

This was said by the Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his daily address on the 126th day of Russia's war against Ukraine.

At the beginning of the address, the Primate thanked God and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to live another day.

“Kharkiv was ruthlessly bombed during the past day. Twice, yesterday and this morning, Mykolaiv came under rocket fire. Odesa was also hit by a missile attack. Every strike means killed people, destroyed buildings, infrastructure, and dozens of wounded. Human blood is flowing through Ukraine. Ukraine is crying, yet praying,” stated the Head and father of the UGCC.

In today's address, the Archbishop reflected on self-control, which, according to him, is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that crowns all other fruits, moreover, it is a sign of full maturity of a person in her life in the Holy Spirit.

“Self-control means a person's correct perception of herself and the world that surrounds her, building the right relationship with those resources, personal and common, that the Lord has given us to care for today”, the Head of the Church explained.

He emphasized that this fruit of the Holy Spirit has two dimensions: internal and external.

The internal dimension of self-control, according to him, gives a person the ability to manage herself, master her aspirations, life needs, tasks, and build relationships with herself correctly.

“Instead, in its external dimension, self-control gives a person the opportunity to properly organize her earthly life in all its dimensions, to properly use for her own good and for the good of others all that she has at her disposal, regardless of whether it is a little or a lot,” the Head of the UGCC explained.

The Head of the UGCC thanked all the people who help Ukraine to survive the war. “These days, a special delegation from Italy is staying in Ukraine: starting from the city of Bologna, all the way to Odesa and Mykolaiv, a humanitarian caravan with the special name “StopTheWarNow” has arrived. This caravan is led by the Vice-President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Savino, Bishop of Cassano, from the south of Italy. We welcome our Italian friends, we thank the Italian Bishops' Conference and all people of good will around the world for correctly managing the talents and earthly goods with which the Lord has endowed them, today they are generously sharing with Ukraine and help the needy,” told His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

“O God, bless Ukraine! God, stop the murderous hand of the aggressor! O God, give us Your wisdom and self-control, so that we can defeat the evil of the attacker with a Christian attitude, strength and righteousness! O God, bless Ukraine!” asks the spiritual leader of Ukrainians.
