"Today I have come to you as your friend and Christian. I wouldn’t like hierarchical degrees or other obstacles in communication to confront us. I am aiming at sharing thoughts about the event, which took place a few months ago, at a time when everyone prepared for the celebration of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus- Ukraine ... "- with these words His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Head of the UGCC, appealed to the students and teachers of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" on September 10, 2013.

As the Head of the UGCC noted in his speech, then there was another important event - the first visit of the newly elected Pope Francis to Latin America. "These days the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro was going on, and nearly 3 million young people were gathered- he recalled, - it was the coldest period of the year in this country ( it snowed ). Young people overnighted in the rain on the beach to be with the Holy Father. Then, on July 22, the Pope spoke with the journalists. He gave a short, but deeply Christian speech ... The Pope said that his first desire, as the newly elected Pontiff was to be with young people. This is significant, because he wanted to meet the youth in its social context. "I also would like to tell you that, I want to go, where you are "- retold His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

According to the Primate of the UGCC, the Pope Francis wanted to know how young people feel in the modern culture, which he considers to be "the culture of denial ". The Pope explained that modern culture rejects youth and elders. "Today in the world a whole generation of young people, who are called "lost generation "in Europe, is formed. Young people cannot integrate into the community of the society in which they live. So to say, they have no such need. Particularly, in Latin America, whole generations cannot find work. The second group of people is to reject the elders, full of experience wisdom. Then it turns interesting - some are not allowed in the society, and others are early removed from it and dismissed out of hand ... "- the speaker shared his thoughts.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav remarked that Christians today have great power, because "when someone believes in God, the Lord implements him to the communication with Him." A believer becomes a member of God's family and then he can make outright human relationships with others. Therefore, the Church defends constant family values and human assets. "The Pope said that a believer is able to humanize modern technological society and resist the "culture of denial ", - he added.

In addition, at the end of his speech the Head of the UGCC said that it was the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" - the first university in Lviv, which opened the door for the student chaplaincy, "So we can be of use to a young man to lead him into the society."

"There's another part of the society, we cannot forget about, - the elders. They are indispensable sources of wisdom and life experience. The young man often seems that he does not need an older person. However, the Pope asserts that the power of youth and the wisdom of elders - two wings for building a culture ... "- His Beatitude Sviatoslav told.

It should be reminded that a meeting of His Beatitude Sviatoslav with students of " Lviv Polytechnic " was held on the occasion of the Year of Faith on the initiative of the"Lviv Polytechnic" International Institute of Education, Culture and Relations with the Diaspora.
