Head of the UGCC: "We ask people to fulfill their civic duty and choose those who truly love Ukraine"

The great trouble of our Ukrainian society is that we have few people who are able to truly love another. This opinion was expressed by Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav in a sermon to the faithful on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

The Primate of the UGCC reminded that next Sunday there will be elections to the local governments in Ukraine. Now in all churches priests read a special address of our Synod concerning the upcoming elections.

What is the call of the Church? "His Holiness Pope Francis says that the social calamities that plague us today occur because we are incapable of loving and because we perceive another person as an enemy. We perceive a stranger, an emigrant, as someone who wants to take something from us.

In order to overcome social disasters, the Head of the UGCC noted, it is necessary to listen to the Holy Father, who speaks of politics as a public manifestation of love. Every person the Lord God places beside us is like God's call to serve and love.

"The great trouble of our Ukrainian society is that we have few people who are able to truly love another. We remember the words of His Beatitude Lubomyr, who said that today Ukrainian citizens are no longer divided into Ukrainian-speaking and Russian-speaking, but are divided into those who love Ukraine and those who do not love it," the Primate said.

"In our appeal, we ask our people to fulfill their civic duty as an expression of love for the Motherland and to choose those who know how to love, who truly love Ukraine and are ready to serve their compatriots seeking the common good," he said.
