Head of UGCC: Responsibility for Ukrainian people’s choice we have to bear collectively

Regardless of who people cast their votes for and what kind of dreams they imagined to be fulfilled by their candidates, I encourage everybody to join efforts in building free independent Ukraine, - expressed his opinion Head and Father of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav in a traditional paschal interview for Channel 5.

His Beatitude thanked God for elections held in Ukraine.

“This very method which was followed during the elections became a bright example of European democracy. I assume that many of representatives of friendly countries, who were observing the elections, all proved a fact of democracy celebration”, he said.

The Major Archbishop also thanked everybody who took part in elections, since it was an important test of consciousness.

“Talking about the outcomes, - mentioned the Head of Church – we will see. The Lord says: you will know them by their fruits. What this choice means we do not realize completely, though, we have to understand that all of us will bear a responsibility for the one we chose. The responsibility for the choice we made”.

According to him, a responsibility means not merely to observe what is going on in our state but to control the government, demand everything what we, as voters, have hoped to see in this or that candidate, being sure that starting implementing his presidential decree he will do everything exactly we have hoped for.

“This is our commitment”, emphasized His Beatitude Sviatoslav and added: “Now more than ever our people as well as our country need a unity. The unity we demonstrated on the Maidan. The unity we have demanded from the candidates in order to preserve European development course of our country. The unity being showed by Ukrainian people while defending our motherland from Russian aggressor. This kind of unity we need like never before”.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his hope for Ukraine to move on well. “During the Paschal days the Resurrected Christ is a fountain of our hope. The One, who we can rely on totally”.

“I believe that these foundations and values our heroes declared on the Maidan, values which our best sons and daughters are dying for, values we mark our “free sovereign country” with, which is an inevitable part of an European Christian community, - these values will remain solid”.

If one of the politicians dares change or draw Ukraine away from its course to Europe, he will cause an awful disaster personally to himself and to the whole Ukrainian land.

“What our Ukraine will be? – It will be as we as its citizens will make it. Not these or those political forces, not even this or that president, but we, its citizens”, the Head of the UGCC is convinced.
