His Beatitude Lubomyr will celebrate his 80th birthday in Kyiv amidst students

His Beatitude Lubomyr (Husar) will celebrate his 80^th birthday in Kyiv amidst students, announced the UGCC Center of Academic Pastorship of Kyiv Archeparchy.

“Some 200 students from various places in Ukraine will attend the celebrations in honor of the 80^th birthday of His Beatitude Lubomyr Husar, to be held in Kyiv on February 28^th.  The festivities will begin with Thanksgiving Vespers to the Blessed Mother in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ at 4 PM, open to all,” informed Rev. Volodymyr Malchyn, the chaplain of the Kyiv branch of the association Obnova and the head of the UGCC Center of Academic Pastorship of Kyiv Archeparchy.

According to the priest, after the Vespers, a birthday celebration will take place, attended by students, representing some thirty institutions of higher education and youth associations, who in the last few years have visited His Beatitude Lubomyr.  Among those attending will be students of the National University Kyiv Mohyla Academy, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University, Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Ternopil National Economic University and others.  Also attending will be students of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv and UGCC seminarians in Ukraine.

The honorable jubilee celebrant delegated the organization of the event to the Kyiv branch of the association Obnova. “This is not the first time that we are organizing meetings of students with His Beatitude Lubomyr; it always evokes in us a joy and an excitement.  We are very touched by the desire of His Beatitude Lubomyr to celebrate his 80^th birthday amidst students, but this demanded assuming a great responsibility to ensure that the celebration be prepared on an appropriate level,” states the head of the Obnova Kyiv branch, Halyna Kopystenska.

Obnova reveals that the students have prepared a lot of pleasant surprises for the celebrant.  As part of the festivities students will be privy to hearing remarkable events of His Beatitude Lubomyr’s life, to view unique videos and photographs, to present a creative gift, to enjoy tasty sweets and to receive his Archierarchal Blessing.
