On Thursday, December 9, representatives of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine met with Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The meeting was held at the request of the speaker of Parliament.

Religious leaders thanked the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada for enactment of law on “Military chaplaincy service".

The Father and Head of the UGCC mentioned that this law opens a new page in relationship between the Churches and the State. It shows how far a state can reach and participate in Churches’ activities and viсe versa in which way Churches and religious organizations can be actively present at various state institutions.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav assumes that the bill on the military chaplaincy service will create new opportunities and mechanisms to work out further legislative acts, such as: medical and prison chaplaincy. It also enables institutionalized service with shared responsibility, which is peculiar to both, the State and Churches with religious organizations.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav assured the Chairman of the Ukrainian parliament that AUCCRO, as well as single Churches are ready for different ways of collaboration with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, particularly when it comes to analytical support or involvement in drafting of certain bills. “We are especially concerned with regulating issue of surrogate motherhood, social service of Churches in Ukrainian society, etc”, - the Head of the UGCC emphasized.
