In the Notre Dame Cathedral there was a prayer for the victims of Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine

Approximately one thousand Ukrainians gathered on the 18th of November 2012, in the Cathedral of Notre Dame, so as to prayerfully commemorate the victims of the Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. The Liturgy was headed by Archbishop Tsyril (Vasyl), who is the Secretary of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, in concelebration with Bishop Borys (Gudziak), who is the Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainian in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Moreover, with bishops concelebrated 12 Greek-Catholic priests coming from France, Belgium and Switzerland as well as the representatives of Melkite, Maronite and Coptic communities, Russian Catholics and Roman Catholics. There was a choir of the Cathedral Church of St. Volodymyr the Great singing in Paris. During the Memorial Service, the participants of the prayer were joined by the Ukrainian Orthodox priests. During the church services, there were also the representatives from the diplomatic corps.

"The Famine of 1932-1933 was an attempt to destroy all the Ukrainian population – told, during the Liturgy sermon, Monsignor Pascal Hol’nish, who is the head of the organization" Oeuvre d "Orient". - However, nevertheless, the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian Church managed to escape from the severe persecution. French people hold together spiritually with the population of Ukrainian. The manifestation of this solidarity may be found in the participation of our organization in pastoral and social projects in Ukraine".
