The Religious-Information Service of Ukraine (RISU) published a book entitled "The Church and the Media: Seven Steps to Understanding", which will be useful for the church press-agencies and for the journalists, who are writing about the religion. This is a manual containing the basics of communications and relations with the community.

In the seven chapters of the manual, authors analyze the image of the Church in the media, talk about the peculiarities of the work of the church press-services and about the cooperation with journalists; moreover, they provide answers on how the press services should respond to the crisis.

"This is the first book in Ukraine, the authors and the compilers of which set a goal for themselves to organize and to deliver to the Ukrainian reader what has been elaborated on the theme "The Church and Relations with the Community”. It is of great value as it was created by experts", - it was pointed out by the director of the European Institute of Social Communications, Oleksandr Dobroyer.

The authors of the book combined the theory of communications with the context of Church activities in Ukraine. The work on the book began in 2008 from the series of trainings and workshops for the press services of various denominations and for the students of educational institutions. The initiative of RISU was supported by the Koch Foundation, which co-sponsored the edition of the book.

"According to one of the rules of good writing, you should only write such a book, which you would like to read yourself. This was the particular reason for yje creation of this publication. While organizing the trainings for the church press services and for the journalists, we realized that there is no manual written in Ukrainian, which can be recommended as a supporting literature "- the authors indicate in the introductory section of the edition.

This book was published in the Christian publishing house "Ezdra" in Ukrainian, and was designed for the workers of the church press services, journalists and students from the faculties of journalism, who want to work in the field of religious information. Moreover, it may also be useful for the leaders of Churches and for the leaders of religious organizations.

"The majority of religious organizations and associations have their own press-services; however, they lack either the professionalism or simply the understanding of what is the part of their duties. Churches have stories to tell about their lives, what to address the society with, but they are not always capable to do that. That is the reason why the Religious Information Service of Ukraine decided to compile this manual-book", - explains Taras Antoshevskyi, the director of the Religious Information Service of Ukraine.
