International scientific conference dedicated to particular law of Eastern Churches was called in Lviv

March 26-27, 2019 International scientific conference about particular law on “Current development of Eastern Catholic Churches” was held in Lviv.

This scientific event organized with joint efforts of Pastoral theology department of Ukrainian Catholic University, Canonical department of the Patriarchal Curia of UGCC and Society of Ukrainian canonists gathered under the roof of Philosophy and Theology faculty specialists in canonical law from Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and Italy. The participants were discussing a relevant as from scientific so from pastoral side an issue of development church jurisdiction in certain Oriental Catholic Churches.

Speeches were delivered by: bishop Giorgio Gallaro (Italy), professors William Blaiziffer (Romania), Peter Shabo (Hungary), Tomash Khorvat (Hungary) and Andriy Tanasiychuk (Ukraine). Each of the speakers presented the participants of the scientific forum contemporary problems of development of particular law of their own Churches. Fr. Andriy Tanasiychuk reported on the necessity and actual state of development of local law of UGCC and the process of codification of its full compilation. The author not only outlined the history, collection and processing a single compilation of UGCC Church jurisdiction but also referred to some existing problems which Ukrainian Church faces in terms of particular law and suggested the possibilities of solving them.

It is important to mention that every speech was followed by a discussion, which could be joined by all the participants.

At the end the main organizer of the event, Fr. Mykhailo Dymyd, PhD, professor of canonical law at UCU mentioned that holding this kind of international scientific conference in Lviv gave Ukrainian canonists an opportunity to borrow an experience of other Oriental Catholic Churches what they will be able to use further. This scientific meeting became a positive sign of Ukrainian canonicity development.
