On October 30, 2009, Bishop Volodymyr (Viytyshyn) of Ivano-Frankivs’k of the UGCC and Bishop-emeritus Sofron (Mudryj) of the Ivano-Frankivs’k eparchy UGCC, OSBM, called the clergy and the faithful to pray and to stay calm in regards to the spread of the flu and the difficult situation which has unfolded in the territory of Ivano-Frankivs’k Eparchy of the UGCC. The word of support was published in an official address to the clergy and faithful of the Ivano-Frankivs’k Eparchy of the UGCC on October 30, 2009. In the document the speech in particular goes: "The difficult situation which has unfolded on the territory of three regions of our Motherland causes a disturbance for people. The infectious spread of the flu leads to mass sickness, and sometimes even lethal cases. The church as a loving mother calls to prayer and to use and include specialists of this situation – medics.  “We call on you now to first of all keep calm, but to act: to keep proper hygiene in your homes and outside of them, to use all antiseptic means for communication and in large gatherings of people, at the sign of the first symptoms of disease to go to the doctor.  We, the pastors, do not forget faith and prayer. In all the churches of the Ivano-Frankivs’k Eparchy will be heard the prayer to the Heavenly Father to request the recovery of the sick and to end the spread of this virus.  “Let’s remember that God’s will is for everything and when we pray ‘Our Father’ we know and realize: ‘Thy will be done….’ We believe in the care of God and the protection veil of the Holiest Mother of God which is our mother and patroness on earth, let’s ask Her for her help in our prayers, and the Almighty Lord in the Holy Trinity will help and support for us."
