Kyiv turns into spiritual capital of the world; God helps us before dawn, - Head of the UGCC

Kyiv is not just the capital of Ukraine. According to the plan of the princes, founders of the Kyiv state, Kyiv is the new Jerusalem. Exactly these days, following the results of yesterday’s Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Ukraine, we feel that Kyiv is becoming the spiritual capital of the world.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church said in his daily military appeal from Ukrainian Kyiv, our first capital city.

The Major Archbishop noted that today is the first day of a new period - we are entering the second week of this horrifying war. Ukraine stands eight days long. On the eighth day of the war, Ukraine fights. Today we are beginning to feel and discover in a special way the role and place of Kyiv in the life of our Church, in the life of our people, in the life of the Ukrainian State.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted that today eyes of people from all over the world, all Churches, religions and denominations are directed to the capital of Ukraine. The Lord will help us before dawn.

In the context of this prayer, representatives of all Churches and religious organizations gathered yesterday, March 2, in Saint Sophia Cathedral to pray for peace in Ukraine.

The presence of God amidst his city is precisely the icon of God's wisdom embodied in the life of our people, our state.

“And today we ask, - said the Head of the Church, - this wisdom of God, which has always been the basis of life of our Church and our people, became the basis, the strength of our stability, that God's wisdom reigns over human madness, so the God of peace we rely on, gives us the opportunity to defend this world, hoping that we will not stumble. Before dawn, says the psalm, the Lord will bless us and help us”.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav stated that this night we saw the horrors of war again. We saw the horrific bombings of Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine. We saw the horrors of death again that night.

The Head of the Church also specified that according to international organizations, already on the eighth day of the war, there are about eight hundred thousand refugees from Ukraine. Every day a thousand of Russian soldiers die in Ukraine. There are already more than seven thousand dead from the side of our enemy.

“We pray: God, in your wisdom, stop the war. God, accept our prayer. God, protect your city, be among us and then we will not stumble. God, bless us before dawn and grant us peace”, he said.
