On December 3, the Ukrainian society for the thirteenth time with the world community celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Onthis occasion, representatives of Caritas Kyiv with Fudbenk, namely employees of the project "Home Care" under the direction of coordinator OlhaOsadcha, visited 40 families of persons with disabilities and gave them food parcels, said Fr. Roman Syrotych, director of Caritas Kyiv. Today, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, Ukraine is home to 2.47 million people with disabilities, of which 153,000 are children under the age of 18 years. And each year this figure increases. There are many reasons for this: ecology, low living standards, injuries at work, accidents, high levels of disease. We remind that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities began in the 1980s when the United Nations declared 1983-1992 the Decade of DisabledPersons. On December 3, 1992, resolution 47/3 was passed and this date the General Assembly proclaimed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Standard Rules for the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities were adopted at a meeting of the UN General Assembly onDecember 20, 1993, (resolution 48/96). Ukraine voted in favor of adopting this resolution.
