On the occasion of the Nationwide Pilgrimage to Rome, a concert in honor of Pope Benedict XVI will be held in Vatican

The UGCC organizes the Nationwide Ukrainian Pilgrimage on the occasion of the blessing of the restored Cathedral of St. Sophia in Rome; the event will take place from 13th to 15th of October this year. Among the arrangements for this event, that will be held in Vatican, there will be a gala concert, in the hall of Pope Paul VI, with the participation of Academic Symphony Orchestra “INSO- Lviv” led by Myroslav Skoryk, who is the Ukrainian composer known all around the world.

“With the blessing of His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the religious society “Hagia Sophia” decided to invite this youth, however, already highly professional, orchestra for the best representation of the city of Lviv and of its talents, as well as, for the promotion of Ukrainian orchestral music at the one of the most famous stages in the world. I consider this to be an extremely important event in the history of Ukrainian music "- said Fr. Dr. Ivan Datsko, who is the chairman of the organizing committee of the pilgrimage.

The organizers of the pilgrimage expect that the concert will be attended by the members of the College of Cardinals and the Synod Fathers, who will come at that time to the Vatican from all around the globe, as well as by the representatives of the city government of Rome, by the presidents of both the province of Rome and the Lazio region, by the representatives of Ukrainian diplomatic structures and Ukrainian government. It is also anticipated that the pilgrimage will be attended by many pilgrims from Ukraine and from abroad.

It should also be mentioned that Myroslav Skoryk is the author of the “Moses” opera, which was composed on the demand of the Vatican and was given on the occasion of Pope John Paul II visiting of Ukraine.
