“If the society does not trust its leaders, it will not overcome the diseases in the society. He who is going to reform certain fields should have the trust of the society,” Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), head of the UGCC, said in an interview to Ohliadach.
“If the society does not trust its leaders, it will not overcome the diseases in the society. He who is going to reform certain fields should have the trust of the society,” Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), head of the UGCC, said in an interview to Ohliadach. According to the hierarch, there are many institutions in Ukraine, including the judiciary, which need fundamental reforms. “This applies to Chornobyl disaster liquidators’ rights. Today these people are dying in tents and becoming objects of political manipulation,” said the patriarch.

Patriarch Sviatoslav said that the church should be the voice of those who are silent and marginalized. “Therefore the church perceives Yulia Tymoshenko’s case in a wider context, and prays for all who suffer, including Yulia Volodymyrivna [Tymoshenko] as she today is the most famous of all the prisoners in Ukraine,” said the hierarch.
