On October 27 the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ on the left bank of Kyiv celebrates its eighth anniversary. Exactly eight years ago the Greek Catholics of Ukraine and the world laid the cornerstone of the cathedral. The cathedral is already called the second Sophia in Kyiv. Bishop Joseph (Milian), head of the supervisory board for building the Patriarchal Cathedral said that the cathedral brings a certain charm to this part of the city. "All art compositions, memorials, and special architecture in the capital are concentrated in the right bank,” said the Bishop Joseph. “Therefore our cathedral amid the buildings of the left bank, amid the residential areas is an artistic sacral building. Of course, with time the cathedral will only become better. We will soon complete it.” According to Bishop Joseph, a sculpture exhibition "Pysanka of Ukraine” will soon be exhibited near the church. In the center of exhibition will be a pysanka (Easter egg) with Trypillian motifs, surrounded by 24 pysanky from different regions of Ukraine. This should create the proper spirit in this district. "Some consider the cathedral a ‘long-term project,’” said the head of the supervisory board, “but if to look at it objectively, it is not true. One should remember that we are building a church, and churches usually take a long time to build. In addition, His Beatitude Patriarch Lubomyr many times remarked that the cathedral is the cathedral of our people, of our faithful. And every brick on the building is being bought buy our mothers, grandmothers for 5-10 UAH. Thus, unfortunately or fortunately, we did not have major donors. But it is good that we are building the church this way because, thanks to God, we are not dependent on anyone. The cathedral is built by the people, by individuals.”
