“In the middle of September we began to cover the central vault of the Patriarchal Cathedral of Resurrection of Christ with (green-colored) copper plates. The construction administration entrusted the work to the Kyivan company Alruf. Weather permitting, all four segments of the central vault of cathedral will be covered this year,” Fr. Petro Fedyuk, CSSR, deputy of the director general of the construction administration of the Patriarch of the UGCC told the Information Department of the UGCC. He also said that no less than twenty days are needed to cover one segment, an area over 200 square meters. Roofing work has begun because of the completion in August of the facade plastering on the central dome and pylons of the church at the height of 13.2 meters and higher. (See photos at: www.sobor.ugcc.org.ua). “The total completion of the work on the facade at 13.2 meters allowed for the roofing work to begin. These processes are connected and without implementation of the first, it is impossible to execute the second,” explained Fr. Petro Fedyuk. During the summer, work was conducted on assembling interior elements from the glass-fibro-concrete which join in the interior shell of the central dome. This shell was set into place in January of this year. There was also work conducted on plastering the interior of the drum of the central dome. After the implementation of this work the special suspended scaffolding was dismantled. Also during the summer, measures for a permanent power supply were conducted, as well as the necessary steps for installing plumbing and a sewage system. The question of heating and heat supply of the cathedral are being examined separately.  According to Fr. Petro, when the scaffolding will be dismantled at 13.2 meters and higher and before the winter frost, the work on the facade will be conducted from 0 and to 13.2 meters—the lower part of the cathedral. Also before the winter, all the stained-glass windows in the upper part of the Patriarchal Cathedral will be installed.
