On the Feast of Saint Andrew the First-called Apostle, December 13, in the retreat center of the Lviv Archeparchy in Briukhovychi, a one-day pre-Christmas retreat took place. At the request of the commissions of the UGCC, the retreat was by conducted by Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna), head of the Department of Commissions of the UGCC. Retreats are a special, holy time, a time of prayer, listening to God’s word, and confession. Here the human being stays with God and with him/herself alone, in order to examine his conscience in the presence of the One who reads the heart of each one. The retreat began with a common Divine Liturgy and introductory lesson. The basic theme of the retreat was "The spiritual aspect of experiencing Christmas." This was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the achievements and failures of the year which is passing away and to thank God for everything before asking His blessing for the year which is approaching. At the conclusion the participants of the spiritual exercises thanked Bishop Hlib for lessons rich in content and instructive.
