Preparations for the enthronement of Bishop Bohdan Dziurakh in Munich: bishops prayed at the grave of the first exarch

Today, April 17, 2021, on the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC met in Munich with the organizing committee that is preparing tomorrow's enthronement of the third Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in Ukraine. After that, the bishops prayed at the grave of the first exarch, Bishop Platon Kornyliak.

The meeting was attended by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, Bishop Bohdan Dziurakh, appointed Exarch for Ukrainians in Germany and Scandinavia, Bishop Emeritus Petro Kryk, Fr. Volodymyr Viitovych, administrator of the cathedral in Munich, Fr. Andriy Khymchuk, priest of the Ukrainian parish of Bamberg, who is also responsible for the enthronement ceremony, Fr. Andriy Dmytryk, Chancellor of the Exarchate, and Mr. Vasyl Zakopets’, conductor of the Cathedral Choir “Pokrov.”

During the meeting, the organizational issues of tomorrow's event were discussed - the enthronement of the third apostolic exarch for Ukrainians in Germany and the Scandinavian countries, Bishop Bohdan Dziurakh.

Afterwards, the Head of the UGCC, bishops and priests of the exarchate arrived at the Ukrainian part of the cemetery in Munich, where they prayed at the grave of the first exarch, Bishop Platon Kornyliak, and honored the memory of all Ukrainians buried here.

It should be noted that today marks the 61st anniversary of the proclamation of the Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainian Catholics of the Byzantine Rite in Germany. This happened on April 17, 1959, when Pope John XXIII created and proclaimed this exarchate by his Decree. The first exarch was the then Chancellor of the Ukrainian Metropolitanate in Philadelphia, USA, Dr. Platon Kornyliak. His episcopal ordination took place on July 7, 1959.
