Priests of UGCC and UOC Blessed Cross in Memory of Afghan Soldiers

On the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, on September 27, on Lysa Hill in Lviv, priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the UGCC blessed a new cross. The 5-meter tall cross was erected in memory of soldiers who fought in Afghanistan. In the ceremony took part soldiers who fought in Afghanistan (1979-1989) and representatives of the Lviv regional organization of the Ukrainian Union of War Veterans of Afghanistan - the organizers of the event.

The 5-meter tall cross was erected in memory of soldiers who fought in Afghanistan. In the ceremony took part soldiers who fought in Afghanistan (1979-1989) and representatives of the Lviv regional organization of the Ukrainian Union of War Veterans of Afghanistan - the organizers of the event. A month ago the cross was sawed down by unknown persons. An investigation into the act of vandalism continues today. Nevertheless, the war veterans joined together to renew the cross in memory of their brothers, reported the head of Lviv organization of the union Mykhail Magerovskyj. In the speech to the soldiers the head of Center of Military Chaplaincy of UGCC Fr. Stephan Sus said that “the cross is good reminder for all residents and guests of Lviv about the War in Afghanistan, and also a call for us to keep peace in our souls and in the entire world.”
