Synod of Bishops proclaimed 2013 as the UGCC Year of Faith

As a response to the initiative of the Holy Pontiff, the UGCC Synod of Bishops, held on September 8-16th in Winnipeg (Canada) declared 2013 as UGCC Year of Faith and created an Organizing Committee. According to a communiqué of the Synod of Bishops 2012, the Committee is charged to plan appropriate spiritual events for the whole Church to mark the 1025th Jubilee of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine

The next UGCC Synod of Bishops will take place in Kyiv (Ukraine) on September 8-15, 2013, focusing on UGCC and New Evangelization.  As part of the Synod of Bishops, its members will participate in the celebrations marking the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine, to be held in Kyiv.  In particular, the Synod announced an All-Church Pilgrimage to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv and invited clergy, monastic orders and laity of the whole Church to join this pilgrimage.

Please note that 2012 is the UGCC Year of Holy Sacraments and the second year of preparation for the celebration of the 1025th Jubilee Anniversary of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine. As part of this effort, the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric, held on May 25-26, 2012 in Lviv, delegated that the Catechetical Commission of the UGCC Kyiv-Halych            Archbishopric, headed by Rev.Mykhailo Harvat, to undertake the organization and realization of the Year of the Holy Sacraments in the context of preparation for the 1025th Jubilee of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine. In recognition of this year’s special focus on the Holy Sacraments, there are many events happening on an all-Church and eparchial levels, especially recollections, catechetical lessons, conferences, Eucharistic weeks, pilgrimages, seminars and Christian camps.
