The address of His Beatitude Sviatoslav on occasion of a bloodshed in Mukachevo

Tuesday, 14 July 2015, 17:23
Dear beloved in Christ! With a big anxiety I have accepted the news about bloodshed in a pacific city Mukachevo, Zakarpattya region. I want to remind the representatives of a state authority, as well as volunteers and activists a God’s commandment: “Do not murder!” Violence and death of people in a pacific city cannot, by any circumstances, be justifiable as good intentions of those who have taken weapon to their hands.

Whereas, our Motherland, being a victim of an outer aggression, defend its freedom and independence, the unity and consolidation are very important for our society. It is inadmissible to allow an inside division, aggression and violent intestine wars to appear, for it only drains our strength of blood and destroys the opportunity to a just fight.

European Ukraine, due to an apt expression of St. John Paul II, is possible to build “not with the right of a vigorous but with the power of a right”, that is law – one for everyone. For an inner renewal, reformation and conscience’ sake of our society – weapon and violence cannot be treated as a proper tool.

I am aspiring to express my compassion and prayerful unity with all who have suffered from these tragic events. Call everyone for keeping civic peace and endurance. I am asking competent persons to do everything possible for a peaceful solution of this confrontation, to undertake an investigation of this tragedy, to name its real culprits and do not allow nothing of that kind again.

May all-merciful God save our Motherland from every evil, grant us peace and well-being, prudence and responsibility in a social being.

Lord, Oh the Great and Almighty, protect our beloved Ukraine!

God blessing be upon you!

+ Sviatoslav
