The annual general meeting of the Saint Sophia Society is held in Rome

From February 26-27, the annual general meeting of the Saint Sophia Society takes place in Rome. A memorial service for the dead members of the Society, awarding patriarchal diplomas, the re-election of the President and the Board of the Society are the main events of the first working day.

Traditionally, the annual general meeting began with a memorial service for the dead members of the Society. They prayed, in particular, for the rest of the soul of His Beatitude Lubomyr in the 87th anniversary of his birth. The Head and Father of the UGCC, led the Divine Liturgy.

At the beginning of the working sessions, His Beatitude Sviatoslav awarded with patriarchal diplomas the persons who had helped in organizing the church pilgrimage to the Procathedral of St. Sophia in Rome, which took place on September 1, 2019. The diplomas were given to Fr. Andriy Soletsky, Head of the Secretariat of the Head of the UGCC in Rome, Mrs. Maria Govgera, Secretary of the Society, Mr. Halyna Zadilska, employee of the Society.

The members of the Society heard the report of Fr. Marko Semehen, the president of the Society, for the five-year cadence of his ministry, and subsequently, representatives of St. Sophia's subsidiaries told of their activities.

As a result of the re-election the President of the Society, Fr. Marko Semehen retained his position. Also, a new Board of Directors was formed, which included: Ivan Kulyk, Bishop of Kamianets-Podilsky Eparchy of the UGCC; Fr. Mykola Matvijivsky, Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of the Holy Family in London; Mrs Iryna Ivankovych, Head of the Saint Sophia Society in the US; and Mr Petro Firman, Head of the Saint Sophia Society in Belgium. According to the statutes, the President and the Board of the Company were elected for a term of 5 years.
