The campaign “Basket with fruits for prisoners on the occasion of Savior of the Apple Feast Day” was finished with the visit of women staying in custody

The campaign “Basket with fruits for prisoners on the occasion of Savior of the Apple Feast Day” came to an end on 21^st of August 2012 with the pastoral visit of women staying in the Lukyanivska Prison. Women received greetings on the Transfiguration Feast from Father Ihor Onyshkevych, as well as volunteers such as Oleksandra Perri, Vira Huseva, who is the poetess and Anna Mushynska, who is responsible for the correspondence and charitable support provided to the female prisoners. They were accompanied by Father Konstyantyn Panteley as well as by the workers of the Social, Educational and Psychological /service of the prison. It should be noted that the community of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker at Askold’s grave has 20 years of continuous experience of serving mercy to imprisoned women staying in seven penitentiaries. On Sunday, after the Festive Liturgy, parishioners of a community collected more than 40 kilograms of apples and 14 liters of honey (this donation, when put together with honey and fruits of previously held campaign made 85 kilograms of fruit and 56 liters of honey). The 264 women, who are currently staying in custody of a prison, were, moreover, provided with the spiritual literature and prayer books collected in the department of “Svichado”, based at the Patriarchal Cathedral and at the Askold’s grave. Furthermore, personal care items (such as sets of tooth paste, soaps, toilet paper, shampoos and serviettes) provided by Caritas Pechersk” service, were distributed for each cell. "The presence of priests and lay people in penitentiaries, especially on the occasion of the major religious holidays, supports substantially the spiritual condition of a person in isolation. Prisoners accept respectfully the sermon of a spiritual father and gifts of all those people who joined the campaign,” – emphasized Father Konstyantyn. Photo-report
