At the end of February the Caritas office in Boryslav (Lviv oblast) hosted a free event, Extend a Helping Hand.  Caritas representatives measured blood pressure and the sugar content of blood; taught routines which ease the care of the sick.  Also available were free consultations with psychiatrists as well as physical therapists. Information was provided by Caritas representatives.

The project, Extend a Helping Hand, involved some 40 people of various age groups. None of them were under the care of the local Caritas branch. Information about the project was available to area residents through local newspapers and advertisements which were posted in community places.

We add that over the last few years, Boryslav, as other cities in Ukraine, has seen a significant increase in its elderly population.  Therefore, Caritas-Ukraine has adapted the care of the health and the quality of life of the elderly as one of its main prerogatives.  This is being carried out under the program Homecare, which has existed in Boryslav for over 10 years -- since 2002.
