The Charity Fund “Caritas” took part in the EURO-2012 tournament of street football

“It was not long ago that the tournament of street football has taken place in the “Lokomotiv” stadium in Kyiv, in which teenagers from Donetsk, Odessa, Brody, Kolomyia, as well as, from Kyiv have participated. The teams consisted of those children, whose families use the social welfare services, street children as well as other categories of unprotected people. The second place was taken by the children from the Charity Fund “Caritas-Kyiv””, - Roman Syrotych, who is the director of the “Caritas-Kyiv” Charity Fund, reports.

The tournament was organized by the UNISEF in collaboration with the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace. Yuriy Pavlenko has sent greeting from the current president of our state; moreover, during the opening of the tournament participated the advocate of Serhiy Tihipko, as well as, Leonid Novokhatko, who represented the Kyiv administration. Such World Football Stars as Volodymyr Muntian, Oleksiy Mykhailychenko and Vladyslav Vashchuk also took part in the opening procedure. The sporting component of the event lasted for around three hours: among those matches that were played there were three matches during the group stage (six teams were divided into two groups) and three final ones. According to the final results, the first place was taken by the Donetsk team (the team consisted of teenagers from the Caritas-Donetsk centers and the “Our home is Ukraine” foundation). The rest of the places were taken by the following teams: the 2^nd place- by Mriya-1 (the Caritas-Kyiv), the 3^rd place – by Brody (the Caritas-Brody of Lviv region), the 4^th place- by Mriya-2 (the Caritas-Kyiv), the 5^th place- by Kolomyia (the Caritas-Kolomyia of the Ivano-Frankivsk region) and the 6^th place – by Domovychok (“The Way Home” Charity Foundation in Odessa). The similar Social and Sports Event “The Football Star of the Future” took place in Ternopil; the teams also consisted of the children who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. The children, under care of the “Caritas-Kyiv” also joined. This international football tournament is being held among those children that are having trainings (not professional ones) on the basis of public organizations, as well as, universities with the participation of volunteering football stars and representatives of charity funds of the European football clubs UEFA, UNICEF and National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Particularly for this opening of the tournament, between the seven teams, came such famous football players as Oleksandr Zavarov and Volodymyr Bezsonov, as well as, Serhiy Bubka, who is the president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
