It is my big desire to see us not just talk about God but believe in Him, particularly those who are grieving today and feel like they are in captivity of death. Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav said in his homily on 20th Sunday after Pentecost at the Patriarchal cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

The preacher paid attention to the sense of every Sunday celebrated in a special way, as the first day in a week, what is a holiday of Resurrection and services have a Pascal sense consequently. It exposes an early mission of Christ’s Church – spread the Gospel.

Referring to the extract from Luke about Christ’s encounter with a funeral in a town called Nain, the Head of the Church mentioned that this story reveals a mystery of life and the event itself foretells the Resurrection of Christ.

“In our mortal life a hope belongs only to those who believe in Resurrection. Without presence of the resurrected Christ among us our mortal life turns into a constant experience of dying, and our road is a funeral which augurs nothing well”, the Head of the Church explained.

His Beatitude also mentioned a moment of different social surveys, which are quite a sad scene, since they show that even among Christians of Ukraine and call themselves Christians do not believe in Resurrection. The head of the UGCC assumes that it is a sign of a hope which is being taken from us. That is why, he says, Pope Francis in his messages to the youth warn not to let their hope be stolen from them, belief in the Resurrected.

“We are called not just to listen about Resurrection, we are called to live it through”, the Head added.

Besides, he also mentioned that during the pandemic people got used to paying more attention to death rather than life. Death is becoming news to attract attention. Death, unfortunately, has become the greatest fear of a man.

“Yet we, as Christians need to remember that there is life abiding among us. We ought to become builders of culture of life in the modern world. We need to put in all our efforts to protect our own life and lives of our dearest ones, and in time of the pandemic especially”.
