The Head of the UGCC met with the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine

On April 14, 2020, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, met with Lieutenant -General Mykola Balan, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine. The meeting was held at the residence of the Head of the UGCC. The participant of the conversation was also Fr. Andriy Zelinsky, SJ, Deputy Head of the Department of Military Chaplaincy.

During the friendly conversation, the commander spoke about the main directions of development of the National Guard of Ukraine, shared his ideas about the difficulties and opportunities that the servicemen now face.  He particularly emphasized the important role that military chaplains play today in providing for the spiritual needs and psychological balance of Ukrainian soldiers.  The General expressed his deep gratitude for the dedicated ministry of pastors of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

 His Beatitude Sviatoslav once again emphasized the readiness of our Church to cooperate in the field of providing for the spiritual needs of servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine.  In view of the challenges facing the world and our country today, the Head of the UGCC emphasized the importance of harmony and understanding in society, as well as solidarity in ministry to the Ukrainian people to which the Church and the Ukrainian military are called.

 At the conclusion of the meeting, the commander greeted the Primate and believers of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the coming Easter, and His Beatitude, on his part, assured the commander of his prayers and wished all members of the National Guard of Ukraine good health and a peaceful celebration.
