His Beatitude Lubomyr, Head of the UGCC, addressed the participants of the conference with a letter of greeting. So reported the Chancellery of the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC. In particular the greeting reads: "Much of what is today talked about in the area of bioethics was known in the past under other names. But today bioethics receives proper attention in the medical world and is very justified. I myself would like to note that, in the past or today, this scholarly and practical area obtains its dignity in accordance with how it approaches its own subject of personal interest, the human being."  The Head of the UGCC consequently recalled that for many decades the human being was looked at through the prism of materialistic philosophy and by this was degraded. "When we look at the human being with the eyes of religion, as a divine gift and child of God, we give proper honour to his/her dignity. This raises up the dignity of bioethics and similar disciplines. I am sure that you will conduct your conference in exactly such a key," the greeting reads.
