The Head of UGCC concluded the Year of God's mercy: "It was a big wound healing to the body of Ukraine"

In an interview for Vatican Radio the Head of the Church said that this Year of God's mercy for our Church, especially in Ukraine, was extremely necessary and useful. "On the one hand -  said the Head of  UGCC - for Ukraine this year was a year of great pain because Ukraine continues to live in a state of war. We had a large number of victims, the wounded, the number of immigrants again. We observe a new wave of emigration from Ukraine ... also observe some deterioration of social status. And during the pain and suffering of the Holy Father was proclaimed the Jubilee Year of God's mercy. It was really  a great healing to the wound, which is now Ukraine on his body. "

"If we talk about the dynamics of the Year experience in our Church, I think, we experienced a rather dynamic and well" - said Bishop. He said that at the Synod of Bishops was established the committee  to coordinate the various events of the Year. "The Head of the organizing committee was appointed Bishop Bohdan (Dziurakh), Secretary of the Synod, which, I believe its purpose" excellent. " Our Church in Ukraine and around the world joined in the experience of God's mercy Year. And the symbol of Ukrainian way of worship experience of God's mercy was a figure of the Virgin Mary, especially in her icon "Mercy door", "- he said.

According to him, this year was a special year of social service in our Church. "On the one hand, we were preparing for the Synod of Bishops of the Church, which was the central theme of diakonia. In preparation for the Synod were several interesting events. In particular, the congress organizations, communities, structures of the Church engaged social service. The first time we could see how much our Church does ..."- said the Head of the Church.

On the other hand, he continued, we had a good example - the Holy Father declared special papal action to help victims of war in Ukraine entitled "Ukraine for the Pope" (As a result, the action has raised over 10 million euros. - Ed.).

"At the Synod of Bishops, we not only heard the theme of social service, set up appropriate structures to coordinate this service. We said that the neighbor charitable works must do each person, because this is part of living the faith "- persuades the Primate.
