The eighth edition of the «Herald of the Major Archbishopric of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church of His Beatitude Lubomyr Cardinal Husar,» in which is collected official materials of the UGCC for 2008, has been published. Up to this time editions of the “Herald” have already been published for 2001-2007. From the introduction of His Beatitude Lubomyr to the second edition of the “Herald” we get to know the history of the edition. «The publication of the ‘Herald,’” the Head of the UGCC writes, “was started by Metropolitan Josyf (Slipyj) of bright memory, and later His Beatitude Myroslav Ivan Lubachivsky continued it. From 1965 this important edition for the history of our Church appeared annually (sometimes a few times per year) up to 1988. Considering the changes which took place on the home territory of our Church, in Ukraine, the edition of the ‘Herald’ was halted. In order at least partly to fill the gap, in 1998 ‘in the framework’ of the ‘Herald’ was published the collection ‘Decisions and acts of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in 1989 – 1997.’” (At this time Bishop Lubomyr presided at the Synods). The “Herald” for 2008 as traditional contains the following sections: «Documents of the Holy See» (messages of His Holiness Benedict XVI for different occasions, the words of His Holiness Benedict XVI to the Greek-Catholic bishops of Ukraine on the occasion of the completion of the visit ‘Ad limina apostolorum’ and the greeting of Pope Benedict XVI to His Beatitude Lubomyr on the occasion of his 50th anniversary of priesthood), «Documents of the Patriarchal Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in 2008» (decisions, addresses, letters), «Documents of the Major Archbishopric of the UGCC» (addresses, message, letters, deeds, decrees and sermons), «Documents of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC in 2008» (decisions, messages, addresses), «Documents of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations,» and «A chronicle of events of the year.» An addition to the mentioned materials is colored pictures which illustrate the major events of 2008.  The largest section is «Documents of the Major Archbishop of the UGCC.» Materials are grouped in the following  subsections: «New bishops of the UGCC,» «Tribunal of the Major Archbishopric of the UGCC,» «The Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC,» «Patriarchal commissions and departments,» «the Patriarchal Center in Kyiv,» «Granting of the stauropegion,» «Awards,» «Correspondence» and «Addresses, speeches and sermons.» Those wishing to familiarize themselves with this edition can turn to state regional libraries (all the previous numbers of the “Herald” were sent to them and they will get soon the edition for 2008) or purchase it in the bookstore on Saint George’s Hill in Lviv.
