“Often to explain to people who the Holy Spirit is, the Holy Fathers would say that He is ‘running water.’ We know that when there is no water, that everything dies, and that when there is water – everything turns green and gets full of life,” stated His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) UGCC Head in the sermon during the Pontifical Liturgy on June 2, 2013 in the UGCC Parish of Saints Volodymyr and Olha in Nizhyn.

UGCC Primate underlined that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, is found in the Father as the source and in Jesus Christ as the well.  Therefore Jesus Christ is the real well, which has in it the spring of water.

“We often think about God and eternal matters only once a week, under better conditions, usually when we are getting ready to attend the Liturgy at church.  But God’s real adherent, the “living water” runs through all spheres of his life,” continued UGCC Head.  According to him there is no moment in such a person’s life when they are not filled by the Holy Spirit.

“Every Sunday, I attempt to visit the smallest UGCC congregations , those who are most thirsty for attention and my support.  And here in Nizhyn I saw how many thirsty people there are who still do not know the way to church!  Here, among us, is Christ, who wants to make each one of us the bearer of living water.  Because you, who are present here, can receive a gulp of this living water,” added the preacher.

At the end, UGCC Head reminded all that  the year 2013 was pronounced in the whole Catholic Church as the Year of Faith.  Therefore, we should think about what it means for a person of the third millennium to  believe in God.  “It means to share faith, that ‘living water’ which  runs from the inside.  May the Risen Christ, who is attempting to dig a well of ‘living water’ in each of our hearts, fulfill all your needs and wishes,” ended His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
