The presentation of the programs responsible for integration of persons with mental disabilities into the life of the Church and Society

On the 19th of February 2013, within the frames of educational courses for the clergy of Stryi Diocese of the UGCC, there was conducted the presentation of the programs responsible for the integration of persons with mental disabilities into the life of the Church and Society. The event was organized with the assistance of the Centre of spiritual support for people with limited abiliities "Emanus" in collaboration with the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC. The presentation was taking place at the premises of “Prosvita” building, which is based at the Church of All Saints of Ukrainian people, in the city of Stryi.

On the 19th of February 2013, within the frames of educational courses for the clergy of Stryi Diocese of the UGCC, there was conducted the presentation of the programs responsible for the integration of persons with mental disabilities into the life of the Church and Society. The event was organized with the assistance of the Centre of spiritual support for people with limited abiliities "Emanus" in collaboration with the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC. The presentation was taking place at the premises of “Prosvita” building, which is based at the Church of All Saints of Ukrainian people, in the city of Stryi.

The purpose of this event, which was conducted by the representatives of the Center "Emanus", Fr. Dr. Martyn Homiv, the deputy of the chief chaplain of the movement "Faith and Light" in Ukraine, together with the community of the Stryi city, which is called "Svitlyachky", is to help people with limited abilities and their families to find their place and to fulfill their mission in the Church.

Following the structure of the presentation, there was presented the movie of Oleg Romanchuk "Seeing someone", in which among the issues discussed there were the barriers that exist in society for the persons with mental disabilities. After the film was presented, there was a presentation of social and spiritual aspects of the lives of these people and the difficulties, which are faced by the family that has a child with special needs, as well as how is such a family perceived those who surround.

Shortly after, the members of the local community "Svitlyachky" shared their experiences of the life within the society and their treatment to each other. And then, Fr. Martyn spoke about the peculiarities of the pastoral ministry to the persons with mental disabilities.

During the presentation, the book of Fr. Dr. Martyn Homiv, "Practical adviser of the pastor in serving persons with mental disabilities", was presented. Each of the participants of the presentation received this book, as well as, the materials from the retreats for chaplains, called "Chaplain Participation in the community life."
