On January 22, 2021, the Rite of Episcopal Nomination of the new bishop of the UGCC, Arkadiy Trokhanovsky, was held in the Polish city of Olsztyn. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, together with Bishop Yevhen Popovych, Metropolitan of Przemyśl-Warsaw, and Bishop Hryhoriy Komar, auxhiliary bishop of Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy, performed the rite in the main cathedral of the newly formed Olsztyn-Gdańsk Eparchy.

At the beginning, two decrees of the Head of the UGCC were read : about proclaiming Fr. Dr. Arkadiy Trokhanovsky as Bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church   and the Decree appointing him the first eparchial bishop of the newly formed Olsztyn-Gdańsk Eparchy of the UGCC . Afterwards, the newly appointed Bishop Arkadiy made his profession of faith and, laying his hand on the Gospel, took an oath of fidelity to the Pope Francis, Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav, and their successors.

The ceremony ended with a prayer to the Holy Spirit for the new bishop of our Church, after which His Beatitude Sviatoslav stressed the importance of the event, which is significant both for the faithful of the Eparchy of Olsztyn and Gdańsk and for the entire Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

"We have completed the rite of nomination. You will be ordained tomorrow, here, in this holy church of the Intercession of the Theotokos. This is a great day. It is also a great miracle that we all have come to you - across closed borders, so that all our Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church could rejoice together - here, in Poland, in Ukraine, and everywhere in the settlements,” said the Father and Head of the UGCC.

Then the newly appointed Bishop Arkadiy celebrated the Great Vespers.

We remind you that tomorrow, January 23, 2021, at 11:00 Kyiv time, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the Rite of Episcopal Ordination of Fr. Dr. Arkadiy and the act of his enthronement will take place.
