On the second day of the working session, the members of the Synod of Bishops discussed and made amendments into the project of “The Strategy of Development of the UGCC until 2020” which is the main theme of this year’s Synod.   The presenters on the second working day of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC were Most Rev. Stefan (Soroka) – Metropolitan-Archbishop of Philadelphia and Bishop David (Motiuk) – Eparch of Edmonton.   “For me the most important is that all our Bishops gathered on the Synod will vote for the strategy of development of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In such a way, this [strategy]will be not only a vision of a certain working group, but the vision and aspiration of the whole episcopate. This means that the elaborated strategy will be put into practice in all our eparchies, both in Ukraine and abroad,” – noted His Beatitude Sviatoslav talking on the main theme of the Synod.   According to the UGCC Primate, the main emphasis in the strategy of development should be put on evangelization. “If only clergy puts into practice this strategy, then only a small portion of our church body will be affected by it. But we want the whole Church community to join it – clergy, religious and lay people. To indicate the importance of lay people in the Church, we are planning to proclaim the next year as the Year of Christian vocation with an emphasis on vocation of lay people” – stressed the Head of the UGCC.
