“On behalf of the bishops, clergy and laity of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church around the world, I would like to express my sincere condolences on the aftermath of the terrorist attack in the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice today. We pray for the victims of the terrorist attack, for the Christian community and all the people of Nice, as well as for all Catholics and citizens of France.”

His Beatitude Sviatoslav wrote this in his letter of condolence addressed to Archbishop Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of France, on the occasion of the terrorist attack that took place today in Nice.

"The escalation of hatred and violence around the world calls us to remember the example of our Savior. The Son of God came into this world to show His solidarity with everyone, especially with those who suffer from violence and injustice. Today we are with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,” the Head of the UGCC assured.

He noted that Ukraine has been suffering from terrorism and hybrid war for almost seven years already. "Despite this pain, we see how God strengthens us and gives us hope," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

During the global political and medical crisis, social and moral problems, the Head of the UGCC urged the French never to doubt that Christ is among them and with them.

On October 29, near the Notre-Dame basilica in the southern French city of Nice, a man, who was detained almost immediately, attacked people in the church with a knife. As a result of the terrorist attack, three people were stabbed to death and several others were injured.
