“The Christian community bears a serious moral responsibility for those who consider abortion a way out of a difficult situation. We request Ukrainian government to outlaw abortion by passing a law, which asserts the right to life of the already conceived – but still unborn – person” states an official resolution of the Synod of the UGCC and the Conference of the RCC in Ukraine.
Catholic Bishops believe that Ukrainian society painfully suffers from the losses inflicted by abortion.  Several research studies show that there are millions of married couples in Ukraine who are childless – 868,000 due to female infertility (80% of which resulted from abortions). The document emphasizes that human life is “sacred and inviolable since it comes from God and belongs only to Him.”  Therefore, Holy Tradition forbids abortion at any point during the pregnancy. Historically, the Church has always maintained that “the destruction of human life through abortion constitutes the sin of premeditated murder of a person,” and that the one who consciously commits an abortion is a hypocrite towards God and towards oneself. “Medical data (specifically, findings by ultrasound research and optical pictures of the inner womb) show that the child killed in the mother’s womb suffers the same as a born infant being tortured to death.  From the viewpoint of medical ethics, an abortion  defaces and defiles the  lofty calling of a physician whose  goal is to heal and save human life rather than to destroy it through direct intrusion” states the document.
