The Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) during the time of the Great Lent, when many Greek-Catholic faithful are preparing for the Sacrament of Penance, asked UGCC bishops to exigently prepare their priests for spiritually guiding those who participated in the protests on the Maidan in the center of the capital of Ukraine.

This is addressed in the letter to the members of UGCC Synod of Bishops of Kyiv -Halych Major Archbishopric. According to the letter of the Head of the Church, the priests should accord special attention to those who were on the Maidan as well as those who in the last few weeks have suffered: the wounded, the families of the perished and the wounded, “whose hearts are undoubtedly filled with a full range of various emotions and who need healing.”

In particular, the Major Archbishop proposed that there be meetings of priests held of a certain Metropolitanate with experts in the area of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Christian psychologists, experts in active listening, those who worked in the hot spots). In this, appropriate departments of UGCC Patriarchal Curia are ready to provide their assistance.

Rev. Petro Rak has been appointed as the person responsible for organizing the seminars.
