On January 20th, according to the program of the 46th week of prayers for unity among Christians, His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) headed the ecumenical prayer service. Praying with the UGCC Primate were Archbishop Thomas Edward Gullickson, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Archbishop Grygoris (Buniatian), Head of the Ukrainian Eparchy of the Armenian Apostolic Church and clergy of different confessions.

The Week of Prayer for unity of Christians traditionally takes place  between January 18-25 throughout the world.  The main theme of the week’s contemplations was based on a quote from Prophet Mikheya : “What does God expect from us?”  The topic was proposed by Christians from India, in particular the Christian Student Association and the All-Indian Catholic Federation of Universities, and was edited by the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

It is noteworthy that within the last few days the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kurt Kokh in an interview with Radio Vatican on the occasion of the Week of Christian Unity remarked : “Ecumenism is not simply an issue of diplomacy or politics; it is an issue of faith.  And that which unites us all the most is the Sacrament of Baptism and the Apostles Creed.”
