“The life path of Bishop Mykhail was filled with great humility, devoted service and full commitment to his work of glorifying Our Lord Jesus Christ and of benefiting the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. His choice was always on the side of God: entering the Redemptorist monastery, becoming ordained as a priest, being a zealous pastor in New York, Winnipeg and Saskatoon, defending his dissertation at the Papal Oriental Institute, lecturing at Canadian seminaries, etc.” states His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his letter of condolence on the death of Bishop Mykhail Hrynchyshyn, Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in France, countries of Benelux and Switzerland, addressed to Bishop Borys (Gudziak).

In his letter the UGCC Head notes in particular Bishop Mykhail’s work in the position of Postulator of the beautification process of Metropolitan Andrey which “became his life’s goal.”  “He made unbelievable efforts in order to ‘resurrect’ the name of my great forerunner, which had been maligned by the Communist regime,” underlines UGCC Primate.  Also, according to His Beautitude Sviatoslav, thanks to the earnest efforts of the departed, UGCC formed a community of faithful to Christ’s commandments in France, countries of Benelux, and Switzerland.

“For all of us the figure of Bishop Mykhail is an example of solidifying the viability of the Gospel.  Our whole Church is praying to God -- asking that He welcome him in His heavenly abode            where “all the saints and righteous rest, and create for the newly arrived Bishop Mykhail, an eternal memory.’

UGCC Department of Information   ADDENDUM:

“The only purpose of my life is the eternal salvation of my faithful.”
Testament of Servant of God Metropolitan Andrey (Sheptytsky)
presented to Holy Father Pius XI

His Excellence Bishop Borys (Gudziak),   Your Excellency,
Reverend and revered fathers,
most esteemed brothers and sisters, and lay faithful
of our Church in France, countries of Benelux and Switzerland,

I learned the sad news that His Excellency Bishop Mykhail (Hrynchyshyn) rested in God. From me and all the members of the UGCC Synod of Bishops, please accept our sincere condolences and words of comfort.

When we survey the life path of the deceased bishop, we immediately see that he was filled with great humility, devoted service and full commitment to his work of glorifying Our Lord Jesus Christ and of benefiting the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.  His choice was always on the side of God:  becoming a Redemptorist monk, becoming ordained as a priest, being a zealous pastor in New York, Winnipeg and Saskatoon, defending his dissertation at the Papal Oriental Institute, lecturing at Canadian seminaries, etc.”

The aim which the Bishop put before himself as the Postulator of the beautification process of Metropolitan Andrey, also “became his life’s goal.”  “He made unbelievable efforts in order to ‘resurrect’ the name of my great forerunner, which had been maligned by the Communist regime,” underlines UGCC Primate.

Also, thanks to God’s blessing and the earnest efforts of the departed, UGCC formed a community of faithful to Christ’s commandments in France, countries of Benelux, and Switzerland. For them, His Excellency was a good spiritual father who laid his soul for his herd (John 10,11). For all of us the figure of Bishop Mykhail (Hrynchyshyn) is an example of solidifying the viability of the Gospel. The Word of God which fell on good soil, brought a rich harvest which will remain for the future generations.

In thanking God today for the gift of life and service of His Excellency Bishop Mykhail for our Church and the Ukrainian people, we can with certainty capture his essence with the words of  Apostle Paul: “I competed in a good match, finished my race and preserved my faith. In the end I am crowned with the wreath of the righteous.” (2 Tym. 4, 7-8).

Our whole Church is praying to God, asking that He welcome him in his heavenly abode, where “all the saints and righteous rest,” and create for the newly arrived Bishop Mykhail, an eternal memory.
