Ukraine will take part in an international exhibition of works of prisoners

The Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, in cooperation with the International Catholic Commission of Pastoral Prison Chaplaincy (ICCPPC), with the assistance of the State Department of Ukraine on Questions of Implementation of Punishments, has joined in organizing the Second International Competition of Fine Art of Convicts and Prisoners, organized by the ICCPPC.
The Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, in cooperation with the International Catholic Commission of Pastoral Prison Chaplaincy (ICCPPC), with the assistance of the State Department of Ukraine on Questions of Implementation of Punishments, has joined in organizing the Second International Competition of Fine Art of Convicts and Prisoners, organized by the ICCPPC. The act of transferring the 25 best works took place in the Bureau of the UGCC in Kyiv on June 15, 2009, for subsequent sending to Vienna, where the final stage of the competition will be held. The display will be called "Signs of Life." Pictures, works, graphic arts, embroidery... The decisions of the international jury, naming 70 winners, will take place in Vienna after June 15, 2009, when the exhibition, in which the participation of approximately 100 countries is foreseen, will begin. All the works which were presented for the international competition on the national level will enter a special catalogue which prepares the UGCC in cooperation with the State Department, and all who presented their works will obtain a certificate as participants of the international competition.  For the first time convicts from Ukraine will take part in such a competition, although the experience of conducting exhibitions of works of convicts has gone on in Ukraine for approximately 20 years. The age range of the participants of competition for Ukraine is from 17 to 69 years. The themes of love, faith, resurrection, and the road of life which leads home prevail in the projects of the authors and touch every spectator.
