University church blessed in Ivano-Frankivsk

On September 21, the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God, Bishop Volodymyr (Viytyshyn), Eparch of Ivano-Frankivsk, blessed the newly built church in the city Ivano-Frankivsk. This church will serve for the spiritual formation of students of the city. A large monastery and church of Redemptorists stood in this place until 1946 when Soviet troops arrived in Galicia and it was all destroyed. In the early 1990s the lot land was returned to the church. On February 2008 the administrator of the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God, a temporary chapel, which was taken care by Roman Karpiv, it was appointed protopriest Mykhail Klapkiv, who also managed the construction. According to Fr. Mykhail, the most advanced technology was used in building the church, and accordingly only took two years to build. Mr. Victor Anushkevychus, city chairman and one of the guests of the opening, stated: “To a large degree the question of faith is deeply inner question of everybody. But I have said and will repeat. Fortunately despite the myths created by propagandist circles about Ivano-Frankivsk and Prykarpattya, our city has interdenominational and interethnic tolerance. A few years ago the decision to build 14 churches in Ivano-Frankivsk was made. This year we have already blessed two churches and thus we show an example to the whole country.”
